okay, so Brooke, i know you're awesome and you must be pretty inventive to come up with all the wonderful things you do, so if you have already thought of this then i'm sorry coz i don't want to imply you don't think of awesome things! but, i loved the facial smooch so much that i really wanted to come up with a better way to use it.

i had shanghaied, and even being super generous and using it on my neck and chest as well as my face, i wasn't even halfway through in 1 month. from the start i was reducing mould risk by not applying to wet skin, and mixing it with the slick/water once it was in my hand. (applying straight from the jar was painful, like trying to rub crunchy peanut butter over my face....Last nerve. Snapping. ) i was ever-so-careful not to get water in the jar, and not have wet hands anywhere near it. but at the 2 month mark, a little over halfway through the jar, i opened my jar after 2 days of not using and it was COVERED in mould. Eek! (no really, it was feral, i half expected it to grow legs and run away!)

i just made a post over on the lush AU/NZ forum explaining why i love your masks so much (that they are dry and i mix them as needed) and i thought.....could this work for facial cleansers?

would it be possible to put all the dry ingredients of the facial smooches (like rice powder, almond powder, all the other goodies, etc) into a jar like the muds? then, at the time of each use we could either add a few pumps of slick cleanser and mix in the palm, or you could bottle a specific matching one for each type with the special oil blends for certain skin types, and sell them as a set.

i know it might raise the price a bit, to separate the ingredients and double the packaging, but i would gladly pay a few dollars more to get more time to use such an awesome product.

would anything like that work at all? i really want to keep buying the smooches, because the ingredients are fantastic for my skin, and i like supporting businesses that are so amazing. but one month use for $18US is a bit exxy when i've got Lush fresh cleansers (like AOBS for $16AU) that last 3 months under the same usage methods.

pleeeaaase?
Me am BizarroBomb!

I like that idea a lot!!! It would really save on wastage, and you could adapt the scrubbiness to suit what is going on with your skin. What's not to love?

Oh gross - I'm so sorry this happened to your Smooch! This wasn't something we could duplicate in our stress-testing when we settled on the 3 mo PAO so hopefully it was just a one-off. Depressing.

We did consider a dual-product approach during early development. Largely because the Shanghaied Slick! base was so awesome on its own - I hated to tie it up in the scrubby components. We didn't pursue that largely because of the expense (2 products cost more than 1), but partially because of the fuss - it's hard to gauge how much use a two-part product will get. Personally, I forget to take things into the shower with me. Oops.

So we'll definitely reconsider the mix-your-own approach for the future, and as we develop the rest of the facial line. What's not to love? I do feel like the facial Smooch! are new enough that they haven't quite had a fair shake yet, so for now we'll work with an amended label and a mild preservative to make sure users are getting their full 3 months.

please do consider mix your own! i would gladly pay more for something i know is going to last, and that i can customise to how my skin is feeling on a given day. even if you put it in unlabelled jars and made it a truly 'black label' product by having it on a 'black market' of sorts. maybe only offer it to forum subscribers or by request, to make sure people will know what they are getting into, and give the current smooches most of the focus. *gets on knees and begs*

i was gutted to see my smooch go feral so early, so i really don't want to shell out another $18 for it to happen again. Last nerve. Snapping. a mild preservative might help, because i promise...i was SO careful not to get it wet.

Since fungal species are part of normal body flora you are best off using a spoon/bowl to decant your facial smooches into before use ( I find the bowl from the mud sampler to be the perfect size)

That way you can be doubly sure that you are not introducing water nor any contaminants into the product.

like i said in my original post, my hands didn't go anywhere near the smooch pot, and water was only added once it was in my hands. $18 for a product that becomes unusable before the expiry is bad enough, but when i was being even more careful than the product label/webpage instructs, it's really frustrating. definitely won't be risking that much money again until the product is reformulated.

To be fair you never actually said you didn't use your fingers to scoop out the smooch, you only mentioned not getting wet hands near the product. Even dry hands will have bacterial/fungal flora on them.
*shrug* I was merely trying to provide help to prolong your product.

oh, right you are! sorry! >.< (i should have explained better in my first post)
Aww...
i guess i was (still am) a bit annoyed at being so careful, going beyond the product instructions, and still having half the product go to waste.
